A year ago this August I was vacationing with my beautiful family thinking life was grand until a faithful afternoon brought me back to reality. While at an amusement park, my then 3 1/2 year old twin boys, my wife and I were all excited to ride a stagecoach for the first time. The loader realized our excitement and granted our wish to ride up on top right behind the drivers. From the moment the four of us sat we were miserable. My son Caiden chose at that particular time to share his true opinion of how he saw me by shouting the entire time "Daddy you're squishing me you're too fat to ride this ride." Who would have thought that the brutal truth of a 3 1/2 year old could embarrass not only me but also my entire family, it did and it hurt like nothing I have ever experienced in my life.

When we got home I stepped on the scale for the first time in years and was floored. The scale read 338 lbs! I have always been a big guy; 6'4" but I have never been over 290 pounds. Rushing thought of heart disease, diabetes, and not living to see my sons grow up flashed before me. I was truly scared for my life and my family and knew I had to do something right away.

At first, I started walking around my neighborhood and saw some quick results, but that wasn't enough. Sharing my weight loss experiences with my parents and complaining to them how difficult it was my mother, who has been going to Fitness Concepts for years and has lost over 30 pounds, suggested I check in out. So I did.

From the first time I met Sam and the staff of Fitness Concepts I was hooked. Sam is extremely knowledgeable, his staff very professional and motivating. In less than 6 months working out three days a week with the support and encouragement of my trainer Randy and I have transformed my body. I have gone from a 50 inch waist to a 40-42 inch waist, lost over eight percent of body fat and gained over 12 pounds of muscle. Currently I weigh 272 pounds. You might be saying that it still seems high, but I look and feel 100 percent better and know that my weight loss is permanent because Fitness Concepts has taught me that life style changes are what produce results.

My name is Gladys Galdamez. I started working out at Fitness Concepts 6 months ago. I have lost 30 pounds since I started. I have gone down from size 22 to 16. I have been training with Shana Skillstad. At first I was very afraid to start working out because I did not want to be sore the next couple of days. Also, I have never been an active person. My job is a sitting down job. All of my activities in the past were some gardening, cleaning my house and Curves. My experience with Shana has been very good. She is nice and patient. She encourages me to workout hard but in a gentile way. Now I am more active and feel better. I actually like to exercise now. I have been tired but not sore. It has been a good experience.

My goal, a little different than most, is not weight loss but reduction of body fat, increased strength and general health. Fitness Concepts' approach is the most comprehensive and motivating program I have ever tried (and I have tried more than I care to admit). They listened to my personal goals and desired time frame to accomplish them and then set an individualized plan of action. I appreciate, although dread my weigh-in, measurement and food review days because they keep me accountable-a "necessary evil" in this process.

My trainer, Jose Moreno is one of the best trainers I have ever had. He is driven and motivating. He has a great sense of humor, which I very much appreciate. So while he pushes me to my limit and beyond we also can have a good laugh. He doesn't ask anything of me that he does not expect from himself - he very obviously walks the fitness talk.

In October of 2005, I weighed in at 385 pounds. In November 15, 2005 I had Gastric Bypass Surgery.

After losing about 140 pounds I began walking and eventually jogging to get exercise. The problem I had was that with all of that weight loss, I had lost quite a bit of muscle in addition to fat. And jogging was not going to help me do anything but work my heart, lungs and legs. This is all great but what about the rest of me.

I had heard about Fitness Concepts from some friends that either knew someone that was a member or they were a member themselves.

I have had several "gym" memberships in the pas, but they soon became as useful as the weights in my garage and the treadmill upstairs that only collect dust. Oh, the treadmill is great for keeping my dirty clothes off the floor.

The problem I had was that there was no feedback. No instruction. No encouragement for results. And, nobody really cares if you don't show up.

-Not the case at Fitness Concepts-

Sam and the staff are committed to one thing. Successful results in what I want to achieve.

The atmosphere is full of people that are serious about improving themselves and their lives through fitness. It is neither a fashion show nor a social event. Just people committed to bettering themselves.

I started my program in January of 2008 with the desire to strengthen my core and upper body as well as maintaining a good cardio program.

In the three months that I have been here I have lost 23 total pounds, I have gained 4 pounds of lean muscle and lost 27 pounds of fat. I have also lost 3 inches in my waist.

My upper body strength increases weekly and I am seeing desirable results in my shape.

I would highly suggest that anyone only mildly interested in improving their fitness level STAY AWAY!

Sam's trainers are serious about your goals. And to meet those goals, you must have dedication and commitment.

The workouts will push your limits which in turn will give you a sense of accomplishment and a desire to do more and do better with each and every session.

And if you are like me, you will go in on your off days to make your sessions even more effective.

One note, your family might get sick of you telling them what you did during those workouts. I don't care. I enjoy it!

I started at Fitness Concepts after my annual physical in July. My doctor was quite clear and harsh I may add, that I needed to take better care of myself. I was OK with the status quo. Of course I new it was a matter of time when my unhealthy habits of eating and little or no exercise would take a toll on my health.

So, I explored what fitness program was best for me. When I visited Fitness Concepts I was immediately impressed with the personal attention to the aspects of my health concerns. The next impressive feature of Fitness Concepts was being assigned to Jacob, my personal trainer. Jacob and I have a great time at the expense of my sweat but it is an enjoyable experience with the right tone of motivation. The results since I have started a different way of eating and adding specific exercises to my life activities are beyond my expectations.

Armando is the resident expert on nutrition and Dr. Sam is the head of this magnificent group of health conscious trainers and staff members. When meeting Dr. Sam for the first time, you are immediately aware he is truly interested in improving your health habits and maintaining a lifestyle for longevity. Fitness Concepts is not a diet food program nor is it a weight-loss program.

After years of being overweight, and of feeling listless, I felt it was time to do something about it. I have a history of high blood pressure, and my family has a history of diabetes. My overall health was good, but I was physically inactive; and like many women, I enjoy food. My particular weakness is a craving for sweets. All of this, coupled with the fact that I just didn't like the way I felt and looked for a woman of my age, prompted me to visit Fitness Concepts. I had read several of their advertisements and had read several testimonials. It sounded like the type of fitness center that I was searching for.

Knowing that I needed someone to motivate and encourage me, I asked my husband to accompany me to Fitness Concepts. Fortunately, he was also seeking to improve his own physical well being. Well, after our initial meeting with Dr. Saman (Sam) Bakhtiar, and Armando Espinosa, I knew Fitness Concepts was the place where I wanted to commit my efforts. We joined on the day we visited. That was a decision that I truly don't regret.

Sam put me on an eating routine that is tracked by Armando on a weekly basis. Ryan, my personal trainer, is not only a fitness expert, but he truly cares about my personal progress and success as well. My training routine is challenging, but is tailored to my abilities. Because I was very inactive before I started my program, Ryan ensured that I was gradually introduced into the program. However, the program is tailored to achieve results, so the workouts are designed to challenge one's limitations. As a result, I am very satisfied with the results I have experienced.

When I joined mid-December 2007, I weighed 182.5 lbs. By February 2008, I weighed 162 lbs. My dress size reduced from size 14 to size 10. Although I have not as yet achieved my goals, I am certainly on my way. I am more energetic, I am slimmer, and my clothes don't fit anymore. I am in need of a new wardrobe. I am constantly receiving compliments from my friends and co-workers on my physical appearance. Although the road to better health has not been easy, it has been well worth it.

I really appreciate the personal service provided me, the always available equipment, and the clean gym facilities. Fitness Concepts is a very safe and comfortable place to work out. I certainly encourage other women to join this caring and professional fitness center.

Thank you Sam and Armando for what you have done to keep me on a plan towards achieving better health. My name is Joyce Nicola. I joined Fitness Concepts in August because I needed help regaining the strength in my upper body, lost after suffering a neuropathy which damaged the nerves controlling the muscles in my shoulders, arms and hands. Also, I gained 45 pounds during three years of treatment of high doses of steroids as well as inactivity. I tried every diet and nothing worked. I was tired of being overweight and not feeling good and decided it was time to do something about it.

I passed Fitness Concepts everyday that I drove to work. Finally one day I stopped. It was the best decision I ever made. Everyone there is so pleasant. They are professional and serious about what they do. They will set you up with a nutritionist who will make sure you understand what you should and shouldn't eat. They are available for you anytime.

My trainer Avey is always conscious of my condition. He works very hard to help me gain back what I've lost as well as get me back in shape. He pushes me to take it to the next step even when I think I can't. I now look forward to going to the gym. Like many others who were once athletes, I was one of those "I was once when" types of guys. There were lots of stories about the glory days on the road, the track, and on the field. But as the close of 2007 drew nearer, I wanted to stop talking about what I used to do, and start getting back into the game. However, because I was unable to see my feet when I looked down, I realized that I was going to need some assistance to get back into shape. Although to most people I did not appear out of shape, I certainly was. At 5'-10" and 180 pounds, my physical appearance did not reflect an out shape individual. That is until I lifted my shirt to reveal my pot belly; a physical repulsion that was the resultant outcome of years of inactivity and a poor diet.

My physical condition had become a poor testimonial to my profession as a law enforcement official. No longer a role model to emulate, a visit to Fitness Concepts could no longer be prolonged. Fortunately, (although unbeknownst to me) my wife was experiencing a similar revelation. So, in mid-December 2007, we met with Dr. Saman (Sam) Bakhtiar, and Armando Espinosa. After an insightful discussion regarding the training regimen, and proper eating guidelines, we knew that we had come to the right place. Excited to begin our journey towards better health, we joined the Fitness Concepts family.

I was a one meal a day guy. However, on some days, I would eat some sort of lunch. I would never eat breakfast, nor would I drink water. My diet usually consisted of four to five soft drinks a day, and a big dinner. Because I was a busy person, I never thought much about eating, and I certainly didn't have time to exercise. Also, migraine headaches had become a matter of daily routine. Well, after the conclusion of my consultation with Sam to formulate my eating plan, I immediately began changing my eating habits. The first habit to go was the consumption of soft drinks. Cold turkey abstinence before the Holidays was a challenge all of its own. Fortunately my desire to achieve physical fitness was greater than my desire to please my taste buds. After I conquered that hurdle, the rest was a breeze.

Well, that was until I was told by my personal trainer to do a push up. I would have never believed that I would have been reduced to perform a push up like a girl. My first initial attempts at performing the weight training routines were similarly pitiful; then came the moment of truth, my body measurements. I weighed in at 179 lbs, my body fat percentage was 23.9, and I had 43 lbs of body fat. My waist (real) size was measured at 37". However, my pants size (vanity size) was pushing 34". I was certainly not physically fit anymore.

My trainer and I established a training regimen of three days a week. We discussed my goals and established a relationship. It is a pleasure to say that my trainer has been an extremely knowledgeable and dedicated physical fitness professional. The workouts are challenging and the progress I have made is remarkable. I track my workouts and my eating plan in a journal that Sam provides to all of his clients. My weekly weighins and body measurements are tracked in the journal by Armando on a weekly basis. A bit of advice, stay on your eating plan or Armando will ensure that you do.

As result of the personal attention that I received by the Fitness Concepts staff members, by February 2008, I weighed in at 168 lbs. My body fat percentage dropped to 16.4. Also, as I had desired, my waistline is now 28" (real size). My pant size is at 30" (vanity size). I can see my feet! All achieved in matter of a few months.

I feel fantastic, I am much stronger, I am leaning out, no more headaches, and I have lots of energy. And those pushups, I can crank them out the traditional man way, and by using the perfect pushup device. My goal is to achieve 12% body fat, maintain a weight of 165 lbs, and to bulk up. No doubt with the dedicated guidance of my trainer and the staff members of Fitness Concepts, I will achieve my goals.

I certainly encourage my brother and sister law enforcement and fire service professionals to join this dedicated, professional, and friendly fitness center. It is certainly a place that we and our family members can appreciate.

I would like to extend my personal thank you to Sam, Armando, Nina, Brian and my personal trainer Shana, for all you have done to help me experience a healthy lifestyle. As I approach my 50th at the tail end of 2008, I am confident that my renewed fitness will enable me to enjoy the next phase of my life. From XXL to Medium: One Man's Journey

For years I had a weight problem. Some of my earliest memories are of kids at my elementary school making fun of me about my weight, which would continue throughout my life. Even though I played sports, and would lose significant amounts of weight from time to time, I just couldn't keep it off.

How Fat Are You?

I remember rationalizing my weight by thinking, "I was meant to be fat and there is nothing I can do about it." Eventually, however, I ballooned up to 304 pounds, expanded to a size 56 coat, grew to a XXL shirt, and stretched to a belt-busting 47-inch waist. Not that this fat ever motivated me to do something about it. Neither did not being able to buckle my seatbelt on an airplane. Nor my 90-year-old Italian grandmother asking me "how fat are you?" at a family gathering.

However, in 2007, my life would change. My wife and I had our first child and I saw pictures of myself holding our beautiful baby in the hospital. I finally realized I couldn't go on this way. I needed to do something about my weight so that I could be there for my family.

A Lifestyle Changed

I started on a diet, began going to the gym and started to lose some weight, but once again, I couldn't keep it off. I was headed back to the "old fat me" in a hurry. Fortunately, a friend of mine suggested Fitness Concepts and their personal training, customized diet plan and one-on-one advice.

Shortly after that, I met Sam Bakhtiar, the owner of Fitness Concepts, and little did I know this meeting would change my life (and body) forever. During our meeting, Sam asked me about my diet and workouts. He told me that I was doing way too much cardio and not eating enough carbohydrates. He then designed a complete diet plan for me to follow which included what I should eat, when I should eat, and supplements I should be taking.

But that wasn't all. During our meeting, he got to know me and analyzed which trainer on his staff should be assigned to work with me. Sam told me that he thought Jacob Perez would be a great fit. He arranged a weekly workout schedule and we started the very next day. I was skeptical -- when you've been fat your entire life, you don't think anything will work for you. In my mind, remember, I was "meant to be fat."

Beyond Results

I couldn't have been more wrong and the Fitness Concepts strategy showed me I wasn't meant to be fat. The diet plan is great: I actually eat more today than I did when I was fat. My trainer Jacob is fantastic. His workouts are challenging and fun, but more importantly, they deliver results. To date, I have lost a remarkable 118 pounds, dropping down to 186, the lightest I've been my whole life. My coat size has gone from 56 to a size 40. I wear medium-sized shirts. My waist has gone from 47 inches down to a fit 32 inches. And my body fat is down to just under 20 percent.

One thing that I have learned on my journey is that it requires relentless personal commitment to your diet and workout program if you want to meet your fitness goals.

The bottom line is that Fitness Concepts helped me change my life and get healthier for my family. They showed me a lifestyle I could live with for the rest of my life. Whatever your weight or fitness goal, I am confident that Fitness Concepts can help you get there.

My name is Rich Ward, a Chino Hills resident and retired law enforcement officer. Prior to my retirement, I had contact with you and Fitness Concepts, in that you trained my daughter, several years ago. Because I was working out on a regular basis, I did not think that I would need your services. While I was not losing weight, I felt that I was maintaining. If I thought that I needed to lose some weight, I would just cut back on eating and have one meal per day. One BIG meal. I soon found out that despite my workouts, I was gaining weight and my waistline had increased.

I saw Sam's advertisement in a local publication and decided to take the Fitness Concepts challenge. It's the best thing that I have done in several years. Upon meeting with Sam, I discovered that my weight had ballooned to 250 pounds and my body fat was 36%. I was shocked! Sam counseled me and said that 70% of fat loss is diet related and 30% exercise related. Sam gave me a nutritional plan, based on Bill Phillips "Eating For Life" program which advocates six, healthy smaller portion meals per day. There is also one day per week that you can eat anything you want ( pizza, nachos, etc.). He also assigned me to Fitness Concepts trainer Jacob Perez. Jacob has pushed me, physically, as well as being supportive. I really look forward to my 30 minute, three days per week work outs.

In the eight weeks that I have been a client of Fitness Concepts, I have lost a total of 25 pounds and 10% body fat. I am half way to my goal! As Executive Director of the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce, part of my job is to attend several functions during the week so I don't get to eat properly all the time. In the meantime I was always making excuses for not exercising and I kept gaining weight and as a diabetic my blood sugar kept going up and finally my doctor put me on insulin. Than one day I happen to go to lunch with Sam Bakhtiar, the owner of Fitness Concept and he told me of how he could help me get my health back. Well I gave in and made time and guess what, it worked.

I started the program on April 10, 2008 and my weight was at 207 and my long-term sugar level was at 7.3. As of May 23, 2008, my weight is down to 189 and my sugar level is down to 6.8 and I am feeling so much better. I cannot thank Sam enough and my trainer Steve for all they have done for me. My doctor told me that if I keep this up that by the next time I see him he will take me off the insulin and other medication. I just turned 60 years old and getting my health back is the best birthday gift ever. Thank you Fitness Concept and all the people who work there. First I would like to say that Fitness Concepts has done a world of good for me! My membership was a gift from my husband for our anniversary. He knew that it was important to me to become healthy and fit. With the back ground of Diabetes and high blood pressure, etc. in my family and the daily struggle that my dad went through, and having three children of my own I refuse to have my life interrupted by all these health issues that come into our lives as we get older. With that said. I am applauding Fitness Concepts for what they have done for me, what my husband has done for me and for what I have done for myself.

It is sometimes a struggle to get into work out or even to eat right all the time, but I know what is most important to me and my family. Tthat is to stay healthy and fit. It seems that there is never enough time in the day to fit everything in, but after a work out you feel that you can accomplish anything! I feel so much more energetic and I am able to do what needs to be done, daily. Helping my husband with his business as well as running my own and with keeping up with three children I need all the energy that I can get, naturally!

Now, the trainers at Fitness Concepts, I started out with Israel and now I have Jonathan. They both are very motivated and helpful trainers. Both have helped me with plenty of explanation on why and how things come into place. I understand when working out the importance of each exercise and with the knowledge that I know now I can concentrate on my work out more. These trainers are definitely not pushy in anyway, but very motivated to help me understand the concept of why it is necessary to work out! They also, explain the importance of eating right! Sometimes for me it is very hard when I have four skinny beans at home that can eat pretty much anything. I will mess up every now and then, but will always get back to eating right. I know that eating right is a life change for the better. With the combination of eating right and a good physical fitness routine I know that I will live a fulfilled life!

I believe in all this for my health, and what comes with it is a plus!

Dear Dr. Saman Bakhtiar,

I wanted to bring to your attention a couple of thoughts about your gym, Fitness Concepts.

I had been a member of a local gym in Chino for the past 5 years. Even though I have been vigilant in going every morning before work, the results were less than I would have expected. After all, you would think that you would be getting in better shape, not worse! My workout plan was haphazard, incomplete and didn't include the nutrition component that you introduced to me.

I visited your facility on the advice of a friend. After talking to you and getting your challenge "Just do it" I signed up. I was somewhat skeptical that 30 minutes would actually do much for me but was I wrong.

Your trainers, each and everyone of them are so totally "engaged" with their clients. It is apparent that they take their fitness seriously and give them their complete and undivided attention. You will not see your trainers laughing and joking around with others as they are working with them. They are focused and they totally work their clients!

Unless you have tremendous discipline, I can speak from experience, you will not work yourself like you get worked at Fitness Concepts!

Over the past 5 years working out on my own before I joined your gym I gained over 18 lbs and felt terrible. Having started at Fitness Concepts just under 3 months ago I have lost over 20 lbs and 10% body fat.

I read Saman's newsletters for over a year before I took the crucial step to really commit to getting back in shape. At age 38, I had fallen into a rut. My post-baby weight, my out of control food portions as well as the slow down in my metabolism was all taking a toll on my 5'2" body. I felt unattractive, unhealthy and frumpy. I was tired of the same old roller coaster diets and knew deep down inside the only way I was going to change my body for the long-term was strength training. I called Saman for a consult and from the moment I walked into the gym, I felt it was my time.

My personal trainer, Jose, is AWESOME!!! He created an exercise program to fit my goals and I have never felt so strong and svelte. He is consistent, knowledgeable and knows just how to push you to obtain the results. I never would've thought my body could be sculpted at this age. Thanks Jose!! My training is ongoing but after 14 weeks, I lost 14 pounds and 12.75 inches!!! To be honest, I fell off the nutrition wagon on several occasions but still managed to lose pounds and inches thanks to the muscle I've developed. No more roller coaster dieting. Old fashion exercise is the key to "earning" a strong body!!

My Fitness Concepts experience has been exhilarating and motivation. I have no regrets!!

I have always been an active person but after joining the work force it became increasingly more difficult to stay active.

Several months ago I decided it was time for me to get back to the gym and I immediately thought of Fitness Concepts. They had helped me once before achieve my ideal weight and loose the excess pounds I had gained in the process of juggling family life and a new business.

My initial consultation with Sam was nothing short of first class. Sam listened intently as I explained how I wanted to transform my body and he immediately suggested the trainer he felt would best help me reach my goal. He explained that matching me with the right trainer was an absolute essential.

My personal trainer Delinia (Lynn) Lewis was an incredible inspiration and I immediately knew she understood what I hoped to achieve. During the following 8 weeks she carefully incorporated specific exercises to shape those areas I was most concerned with. Lynn worked with me and helped me achieve a 20 pound weight loss while reducing my body fat percentage by 8% and loosing 17 total inches thus far.

I was impressed with the attention I received from the Fitness Concepts team. Sam's knowledge of proper diet for maximum results really paid off.

I am very impressed with the function of the Fitness Concepts program. What I really like about it is not only does this program help you with our exercise program but they design a diet plan to fit your needs.

All the trainers are friendly and encouraging. It really makes you feel good when you have a trainer tell you that you are really looking good! A few words can mean so much to a person who has been struggling with their weight.

The facility is very clean. Sam and Armando are a good team. They know how to fit the client with the trainer that's going to get the best results from them. My trainer has been great working with me. My trainer, Leree' is someone I see as a friend. I trust and believe that she has my best interest at heart. She believes I can do it, so I believe I can do it. That's the push you need from our trainer.

Once you arrive at the gym you are going to be greeted by the front desk staff. Most of the time when you go into a gym or a store, it's good policy to great your clients. But usually it sounds somewhat phoney. But not at Fitness Concepts.

Believe me when I tell you, when I hear them say, "Hi Terry, how's everything going? Do you need a water?" I know it's going to be another motivating day.

In the past few years, I had an extremely stressful job with crazy hours and had many things going on personally in my life. The way I dealt with it was going out eating and drinking, happy hour became my favorite thing to do!

Things started to slow down and I took a look at myself and there was no longer a glimpse of the body I once had. It took many different diets and hours of going through the motions wile working out. I would lose and gain the same 5 lbs. over and over.

I finally decided enough is enough. I was tired of the way I looked and felt. I was tired of buying bigger sizes in clothes when I knew I had it in me to be smaller and healthier.

I started working out with Fitness Concepts on July 23rd of this year. I work out Monday, Wednesday and Friday with Bri. It was a little rough at first but I stuck to it (when normally I would quit) and have seen results that I forgot were possible. She works me hard and I have done things I honestly thought I never could do with my body. I feel so much better mentally and physically on a daily basis and can only imagine in the months to come how I will feel. I look forward to how my mind and body will change.

I have lost 8 lbs and 4 inches in my first month with Fitness Concepts and actually yesterday was able to run a full mike without stopping! I can't remember the last time I was able to do that. I have a 5k coming up next month and will actually be able to run instead of walking the entire thing.

My name is Maren Dickson and I live in chino Hills. I came to Fitness Concepts with the hope and intention of losing weight as well as to firm and tone my body. I have already lost twelve and a half pounds and it's only been seven weeks! People at work keep asking me to flex my biceps (which cracks me up).

I have been impressed with Fitness Concepts from the very first mailer/advertisement that I ever received from them. Now, since finally responding to one of their mailers, they have continued to impress me with the way that they run their business. Everything they do, the do with such professionalism. This is no run-of-the-mill fitness place; they are a class act.

My trainer, Bri is great; she plans and adjusts my workouts to fit my goals and needs. I like how my workouts are never exactly the same; I never know what to expect...no monotony; no boredom. I never have had to wait for a machine and the maintenance of the equipment is exceptional. The equipment is in great shape and even if a machine needs maintenance or fixing (which I've only seen twice) it is back up and running the same day. You won't see that at your average local fitness place.

The staff is always friendly and helpful. Armando has been exceptionally helpful in answering my questions and addressing concerns. And Dr. Saman...What can I say? Sam's the man! He is so knowledgeable and I appreciate how accessible he makes himself to all of the clients. I don't know how he does it, but he is always pleasant and friendly; he manages to keep a smile on his face and an upbeat, motivating attitude, all of the time! He seems to be on a mission to help everyone that comes within his influence. He is truly inspirational.

Oh, and I can't forget the products. Their whey protein powder and ready-to-drink protein shakes are both the best I've ever tasted, so it makes drinking them everyday an easy thing to do (instead of choking down the usual bitter, chalky stuff).

I feel fortunate to have found such a unique training facility that's practically right in my backyard. I have met people who travel a greater distance, just to train at Fitness Concepts. Yes, they are that good and worth it. I look forward to my continued progress and relationship with them.

I've always been active and worked out at a gym, but I never felt like I was making progress like I thought I should. I guess I just figured the results of my efforts would show some day. Even after training for and running in a marathon earlier this year, my body fat hardly decreased. I weighed less, but looked the same. I saw an ad to check out the facility and was impressed with the focus and personal touch the trainers showed.

The service Fitness Concepts offers is exactly what I needed. I went from 2 -3 meals a day (with snacking) to 6 meals spaced evenly during the day. Armando - Allow me to tell you and the staff about the best investment I have made in years - my membership at Fitness Concepts, which has assisted me in getting fit and losing weight.

I am a business person and continually under stress just through the normal ups and downs of everyday business. I am sixty four years old and have been going regularly to a gym for about three and a half years with ok success but no real weight loss or gain in muscle mass.

Sam Bakhtiar sent me an opportunity for a discounted fee for membership at Fitness Concepts if I came in at 11am - 4pm. I took him up on it and was assigned Jacob as my regular trainer three days a week, for twelve weeks - then, I was given a session on proper eating. Jacob has worked with me on my personal goals, and works with me to include a few little problems have which I don't need to further aggravate, and I have made progress that I would not have thought possible in the first six weeks of my program.

I have gained muscle mass and lost body fat and all of my clothes fit me so much better. I feel like I am such more able to deal with stress and I cannot wait for my next workout session. I am free to come to the center on the days I am not scheduled with Jacob to work on cardio on my own.

Your fitness center is spotless and the entire staff is so friendly and they knew my name right away, whereas I was just a number at my old gym.

Of course, the nutrition is up to me to do it properly, but knowing I am going to weigh-in every week serves to keep me on the right path. I would never write a not of this nature to you if I were not 100% sincere. You guys are head and shoulders above the fitness gyms available in the area.

My name is Virginia. I am 42 years old. I have always tried to be fit and eat right but after having 4 kids I just gave up on ever being able to wear a bathing suit without a cover up. I figured I was over the hill and past my prime as far as my figure goes.

My husband has always been naturally fit and wanted me to be comfortable with how I looked. We first saw the magazine ads for Fitness Concepts and I was drawn to the idea of help with my eating and working out. My husband encouraged me to go in and ask questions. I first met Armando and April. Armando showed me around and offered me a free session with a trainer. After that I was hooked. All the different machines and weight equipment you could imagine. Every session was new and different especially designed for me and my problem areas. I told them my conceerns and they had an answer for every need.

I remember when meeting with Sam Bakhtiar the owner about my eating habits. He said that yes, I ate healthy foods, but not conducive to losing weight. That's when it all made sense to me...I wanted to lose weight and eating healthy was just maintaining the weight I was already at. So after cutting out some foods and increasing my protein and eating more often, which I do like eating more often, the weight started coming off. It felt like I was eating to lose weight. The workouts became something I looked forward to and couldn't wait to get on the scale every week to see my progress. The gym is a very comfortable place no matter what your fitness needs are.

They're serious about working out and making it fun at the same time. Sometimes I feel like all I have to do is drag my body there and they do the rest. My trainer Jose, which they call The Drill Sergeant is tough and encouraging to me. He never gives up even when I want to. He pushes and knows what I am capable of. The gym opens early in the morning to late at night so making the appointments is easy.

I have lost almost 15 pounds in just 3 months. I feel great and I never want to stop working out now that I know what to eat and how to push myself. I am so grateful that I am in better shape then when I was 20. It's not too late!!!

I began going to Fitness Concepts on Jan 3rd 2008 . In six months I have seen some great results!

I have lost 14 pounds, 7% body fat and counting! Not only do I see myself getting slimmer, but I am stronger, and best of all getting healthier I no longer need blood pressure medicine. Fitness Concepts helped me with achieving this.

One of the best tools that I learned from Fitness Concepts was writing down what I ate. That was a real eye opener for me! There are only wonderful things to say about Fitness Concepts. It is a place filled with wonderful and helpful people that will help you set realistic goals and realistic ways of reaching them. There is caring and kind staff that is ready to help and answer your questions. Even those in charge are caring and ready to help. They offer a spectrum of services, but I went there to get back into shape to be able to go back to martial arts, I have several injuries they have taken care to be careful.

Sam, Armando, and Israel are all wonderful and very helpful in helping me with my nutritional aspects of my program. They have always been there for me to ask questions with knowledgeable answers. The receptionists are always ready to greet you with a smile, towel, and a bottle of water. My trainer Jose has been supportive even as he pushes me towards my goal. He is tough but in the way needed to get the job done. He genuinely cares and takes care. Fitness Concepts has a wonderful myriad of trainers to suit each person's needs and styles. In my experience there I had wonderful experiences with other trainers as well.

There is Avey who I had trained with four years ago and just recently and he is wonderful. I also had a session with Charles and Jacob who helped me out when Jose was suck. Even though I wasn't their regular client they were kind and did their jobs wonderfully. Even the trainers I haven't trained with have all been nice and helpful when needed. Each trainer has their style and compatibility and Fitness Concepts has a staff to help you with whatever your fitness goals are.

While my wife was pregnant with our son, I somehow found that I too was gaining pregnancy weight with her. Unfortunately the only problem was that after the pregnancy, she lost all the weight and I did not. I got into running 22 years ago the day before my daughter was born and became addicted. Small races became longer races until eventually I started running marathons. Then midlife hit, I turned 50, and said I need to accomplish a goal I always wanted to do, before it gets too late. I had been wanting to run The Boston Marathon, but a qualifying time is necessary to enter, which meant I needed to get in better shape to run the fastest time of my life. I needed to drop a few unwanted pounds that seem to accumulate as you get older.

Enter Fitness Concepts, directed by Dr. Saman Bakhtiar, I was assigned a personal trainer, given a dietary guideline to follow set up by Dr. Bakhtiar and put on a weight training schedule. Talk about a recipe for success. By having a motivated trainer who established a program built on my needs as a runner, she kept me to a structured plan that included a variety of weight training exercises and to a diet made up of healthy foods enabling me to lose the weight I wanted. My program included recovery after workouts, a developed muscular balance, core strength and added power to my calves and legs. When you feel good you look forward to your workouts and any challenges presented before you.

Fitness Concepts has state of the art equipment making working out easy and fun. The staff is highly trained and easy to get along with, making each visit enjoyable. I originally had taken my son to Fitness Concepts in mid-2005 to help him bulk up in the off season for basketball. I had a very favorable experience at that time so both my wife and I said that we’d join “someday”. I had always thought of myself as a fairly active person, but beginning in 2005, I started sliding away from my somewhat active lifestyle in favor of unhealthy food and inactivity. So, by the end of the summer of 2005, I was feeling the ill effects of my inactivity with various aches and pains of being over 40 and being out of shape. Well, “someday” had finally arrived, so both my wife and I joined Fitness Concepts at the end of August and I began working out with my trainer, Avey, 3 days a week. Avey was great because he really took the time to understand my goals and any physical limitations I may have which might impact my training. He also “eased” me into my workout regimen, as he knew that my body was in no condition to be trained hard right away. Avey is great because he pushes me to my limits, but is very careful not to “over do it”. He is constantly monitoring my form and making sure that my workouts are strenuous and he has pushed me beyond my previous limitations when it came to how much weight I can push (or pull). Combine this challenging workout schedule with the nutritional advice from Armando and Sam (along with regular weigh-ins and measurement taking), and I’m in better shape now at 42, than I’ve ever been before. While I dropped weight, that wasn’t my primary goal. My goal was to gain strength, size and definition, which I have done on all counts. Make no mistake about it, this takes a real commitment to be successful, as it takes hard work in the gym and even more hard work outside the gym to eat right. In my mind, that’s why Fitness Concepts has helped me achieve my goals. They use a holistic approach of both training and nutrition, tailored to their client’s needs, which makes for a winning combination.

I am currently a client of Kristine Yu and have been trained by her for the past thirty two months. During these past thirty two months Kristine has been an inspiration and mentor to me. She is not only extremely knowledgeable, but she teaches by example, living each day by exercising and by eating right.

Kristine has taught me a great deal about nutrition, exercise and overall good health. When I first came to Kristine I followed exactly what she told me to do to become healthy and fit. I did and in just a short time of three months I lost twelve pounds and my body fat percentage was down to fifteen. I then wanted to build muscle mass and get as muscular as I possibly could without becoming too unfit.

Again I listened to Kristine and changed my diet along with my workout routine and in eight months I had gained fifty pounds of body mass increasing my fat percentage to only twenty two.

Kristine then recommended that I lean down as much as possible without losing much of the muscle mass. I agreed and she proceeded to change my diet and workout routine to get these results. I am currently 6’-0” tall and weigh 205 lbs with a body fat percentage of 7.3.

Kristine has taught me how to mold my body and mind into any shape or stated that I wish it to be in. I have complete control of the state of my health because of her and at age forty two I have never been more fit than I am now.

I want to express my sincere thanks to my trainer Kristine. Kristine has been such a great trainer and very motivating. This is my second time with Kristine in the past two years and each time I have achieved great results. When I first came to Fitness Concepts I had never experienced a personal trainer, I was not sure what to expect. I wrote down my goal weight and asked Kristine if my goal was realistic, she replied with a “yes as long as I follow my diet and attend all my training sessions.” With this in mind I always followed my diet (never cheated once) and I did reach my goal within two days of my last session with Kristine. Ten months after I reached my goal I became pregnant and of course gained unnecessary pounds that needed to come off after the baby was born. So here I am back with Kristine for another 12 weeks. My goal this time was to just get back to the weight that I was when I last saw Kristine, well 6 weeks into my training and I am just a few pounds from my goal weight. I feel great and I am sure that Kristine feels great too when she sees that her clients are gaining noticeable results. I am very grateful to have Kristine as my trainer. I would like to thank Armando for his great nutrition tips. I would also like to thank Sam for his compliments and encouragement through out my training experience.

I would recommend every person I know who wants to get in shape and be healthy to consider going to Fitness Concepts. The great thing is that everyone is there for the same reason. You cannot put a price on health.

Approximately a year ago I completed a self-evaluation and realized that I was in the worst physical shape of my entire life. My physical condition had denigrated to a point where I would actually get winded trying to tie my shoes. My doctor was concerned and suggested medications to control my weight, blood pressure and cholesterol if I couldn’t improve my health through diet and exercise. Since I didn’t want to rely on medications the rest of my life and since previous efforts through gym memberships had produced no real results, I decided to enlist the help of a personal trainer.

After meeting with Sam at Fitness Concepts and reviewing the features and benefits of their personal training program, I decided to give it a try. This decision turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made. Through the workouts with my personal trainer, and Armando’s nutritional guidance I was able to lose 80 pounds! The program has positively influenced my life in more ways than I can possibly describe. My only regret is that I didn’t make this life-changing decision years ago.

My personal trainer is outstanding! On those days when I’m tired of discouraged, she is always there to encourage and motivate me to be my best. During periods when I’m not training with her she will still keep an eye on me to make sure my workout is successful. She’s not the prototypical trainer who thinks their job is to verbally berate you and constantly push you beyond your limits. She is caring, compassionate and truly has an interest in how I’m progressing and improving. She makes working out fun and has turned physical fitness into something that I look forward to doing.

Looking Good is Good-
Feeling Good is Even Better

Six months ago, after my husband and I had dinner with friends, I came home feeling frustrated and sad. In our forties, all of us spoke of how tired, achy and old we felt. I didn’t want to feel this way at 42—with the doctor pushing for yet another medication for my high cholesterol, seasonal allergies that had become year-round and quarterly illnesses bad enough to send me to a pharmacy for antibiotics. “Enough!” I thought. I walked into Fitness Concepts one afternoon. Armando greeted me and asked how long I had wanted to get healthy. I said, “Six years.” During those six years, I exercised on my own. However, my eating habits were fairly poor and, if my schedule got too busy, my exercise program was the first thing to go.

Now, for the first time in my life, if I don’t exercise one day—I miss it. I met my goals: I lost the extra ten pounds of baby weight, went from 35 percent body fat to 26 percent and, once again, feel comfortable wearing a bikini. Is my nutrition perfect? Of course not. I know now, though, what my body needs. I make healthier choices and get back on track when I falter. It’s not about the low-carb diets and weight loss pills. It’s about combining food properly. These are things I’ve been teaching my students for years. I sleep better than I have in years, spend less money and time on my allergies, my emotions are more stable and I have an incredible amount of energy.

My trainer, Kristine, has been wonderful support and role model. My initial fear about hiring a personal trainer was that I would not be heard in terms of what I wanted to achieve and in regard to some physical limitations. Kristine has been more aware of what I need that I have been. We have been a great team. My name is Kelvin Siao, 45 years old, 6’5” and I weighed over 270 lbs, suffering from an assortment of ailments ranging from lower back pains to acute migraine headaches. I had led a pretty sedentary life style and had ballooned from my usual weight of 240 lbs to over 280 lbs. I decided to start an exercise regimen to try to lose weight. I started working out on my own and went on the Atkins diet. I was able to trim down by over 20 lbs. in six months; however, my health was jeopardized by the amount of fat I was ingesting as part of the Atkins diet.

I decided to sign up with Fitness Concepts and picked Kristine Yu to be my personal trainer. Kristine designed a workout program to work on reducing stress on my lower back by strengthening my abdominal muscles and weight reduction through exercise and a well-balanced diet. This led me to shed another 20 lbs., reducing my body fat from over 30% down to 23%. A few months ago, I took up tennis again, a sport that I had to give up because of my back problems. I am now exercising regularly and have been living a more active lifestyle. I am in much better physical shape now than 10 or 15 years ago. My health has improved to the point that I have not suffered any migraine attacks in the last six months and my back pains have been reduced to minor aches and nuisances. I am also eating a lot better.

I am now ready to take my workout routine up to the next level and my goal is to hit 235 lbs. and body fat of less than 20%. Together with my personal trainer, I am confident that I will be able to achieve my goal in the next six months.

My story begins after coming home from our annual family vacation in Yosemite. I took a look at the pictures of myself and knew I had to make a change. I was 42 years old at the time and did not like the way I looked. I had already been to all the different gyms in our area and nothing was working. My husband and I decided to consider private trainers. Scott, my husband, went to four different private trainers and was very impressed after talking to Sam, the owner of Fitness Concepts. We decided to sign up.

My trainer has been incredible. She has pushed me beyond self-imposed limits. In the five months that I have been with her, I have lost 31 pounds and dropped two pants sizes. She encourages me on every visit and, even if I blow it, she says, “Don’t worry.” I have never felt this great in all my life and I thank her for it—my trainer has changed my life for the better.

I went to Fitness Concepts with one goal and that one goal was to gain pounds of muscle. When I first started the program at Fitness Concepts I weighed 150 lbs, and now with the help of my nutritionist Dr. Saman Bakhtiar and trainer Aaron Wetherspoon I am now achieving that goal. I now stand at 193 lbs. of solid mass feeling strong and energetic. With all my motivation I got from Fitness Concepts I now want to pick up bodybuilding in a few years. I want to thank you for your motivation and guidance in helping me become fit for the rest of my life. After trying out so many diets, working out on my own and trying out a trainer at another gym without results, I was a little apprehensive about joining Fitness Concepts. Boy, am I happy I did!

I decided to give Fitness Concepts a try and was assigned to a great trainer whose guidance and expertise has motivated me and made it a great experience. Her professionalism has taught me to have a positive attitude and stay determined and committed. Within three months I have lost 14 pounds and dropped 4 dress sizes. At the end of April, I decided that I needed to make a commitment to myself and get in shape. My work takes me all over the country and requires me to be flying out of town 3-4 days per week. Consequently, over the past few years, I have not been exercising regularly or eating healthy and gained over 30 pounds. A few years ago, I was running half marathons and now I realized I could barely run a mile without getting winded. After becoming frustrated with clothes that did not fit, I decided to call Fitness Concepts and make a change. After touring the gym, I was very impressed with its size, cleanliness and its state of the art equipment. I met with Armando and made a 7-month initial commitment to becoming healthier. On my first visit, I weighed 207 lbs, with 26.2% body fat that totaled 54.5 lbs. My total inches were 200.75. Armando and I discussed my goals, which was to lose weight, but more importantly to get trim and tone my body. He gave me a meal plan that allowed me to have options for each meal and accounted for my frequent travel schedule. I also started on a daily vitamin. I then began a twice-weekly weight-training program with my personal trainer, Mo. I discussed my goals with Mo, who then took over. Each session, he pushes me to give 110%. He is very encouraging and takes a personal interest in my health and my goals. He often asks if I am happy with his training and offers to make changes if I need any. Every time I come into the gym, I am greeted by a friendly staff and made to feel welcome. Dr. Sam often checks with me to make sure I am satisfied and if I have any suggestions. This friendly, professional atmosphere allows me to train in a comfortable setting. After 4 months of training, I am happy to report that I have lost 20 lbs. Not only that, but I have trimmed my body fat to 18%, down to 34 lbs. My total inches are down to 194. I still feel that I have a long way to go, but I feel great about what I have accomplished to this point. The team at Fitness Concepts has enabled me to get back into shape, feel healthy and got me back into my old clothes. In fact, I have had to buy smaller sizes to account for my new body. Thanks to Sam, Armando and Mo for helping me get to my goals.

Sam and Armando have a great gym for adult in mind. They have picked a trainer that fits my personality and knows how far he can push me.

I have been working out with Cris for about 6 months and the results are positive. I am stronger and much less likely to injure myself regardless of my activity. Workouts with Cris are challenging and varied while he continually motivates me. I feel confident that I am now using the weights and equipment the correct way. You’d be surprised at how wrong you are using the weights when you don’t have the knowledge. I have lost 3 dress sizes and I feel more physically fit and look healthier than I have in a long time. I had driven past this building for at least 1 ½ years and every time I drove past, I would comment to myself “yeah if I could just get a jump start”….with my weight climbing over the 302 lb mark, I finally got up enough nerve to go inside and see what it was all about. Once inside, I was greeted by Armando and I expressed my concerns as to all the numerous times I had failed in the past and with having back problems expressed my concerns. So after talking a while and getting a tour of the facility I felt extremely confident that, this was the place that would help me be motivated. With the help and support of my trainer Lilia and all the staff and a lot of hard work on my part. I can see the pounds melting away and I am becoming stronger and healthier with each passing day. On my 3 month weigh in I have lost 34 1/2 lbs and dropped 3 pant sizes which just makes me all the more determined to follow thru and work harder for better results. My name is Scott Smolchuck. I began personal training with Dr. Saman Bakhtiar in February of 2005. At the time I weighed approximately 227 pounds at a height of 5’10”. Although I had exercised and lifted weights from the age of 16 on, I had gained weight and lost some definition.

My motivation for beginning a training program was an upcoming cruise vacation in May of 2005. Upon beginning my program with Dr. Sam, I had a body fat percentage of 23.5%. By the time of vacation I had a weight of 204 pounds and a body fat percentage of 12.5%. The proof was in the vacation pictures.

At that time, Dr. Sam encouraged me to train and enter the Mr. San Diego body building competition in March of 2006. Reluctant at first, I decided to do it by December of 2005. After only eight weeks of training, my body fat dropped to 4.5%. I entered the Max Muscle Naturals in Anaheim, California and won 2 trophies in 3 events entered. By the time you read this, I will have participated in the Mr. San Diego contest and am confident that I will trophy there as well. While it has been gratifying to win trophies, it is better knowing that my health is better than it has ever been.

One of the most important things I learned from Dr. Sam was that despite years of exercise, nutrition plays a very important part of a healthy lifestyle. I plan to continue training with Dr. Sam knowing that through a healthy eating lifestyle and exercise program, I do not expect to ever end up on medications to control the ill health effects that a lack of exercise and unhealthy eating cause.

You will find the staff at Fitness Concepts knowledge and well informed. Dr. Sam is highly educated in the fields of fitness and nutrition. I am a 49 year old man who was in bad physical shape. My hips and back hurt at all times. I could not bend down to pick up anything off the floor. First, I was going to a chiropractor for almost a year. He helped me get and stay in alignment. However, my doctor told me I needed something more.

My wife brought home an ad for Fitness Concepts and I also saw a flyer in a mailer packet.

In 49 years of life, I have never worked out with weights. More than 30 years on the same job has diminished my range of motion. To me, I needed the combination of a trainer and nutrition brought into my life.

I made an appointment with Sam in February and decided to try through a consistent schedule of 3 days a week. I have almost lost 40 lbs!

After some time of pain and sweat I have a better quality of life. My attitude is better and I’m nicer to my family. My personal trainer Cris and physical therapist Loren have helped me with greater range of motion, more flexibility and better sleeping patterns.

Approximately a year ago we decided to check into Fitness Concepts as a replacement for our memberships at another facility. Because of health concerns we felt that a change in training approach and exercise regiment was necessary. We wanted to lose weight, increase our stamina and tone/strengthen our bodies while improving our total well being. We felt that our previous independent efforts had produced no real results and we decided to enlist the help of a personal trainer.

After meeting with personnel at Fitness Concepts and reviewing the features and benefits of their personal training program, we decided to sign on. Through the guidance of Andy, Sam and Armando we have been able to achieve some remarkable results. We definitely feel that the program has positively impacted our lives.

I have been dedicated to working out for many years including aerobics, swimming, walking, and cardio/weight training with my husband joining in periodically. I felt that I was doing fine on my own but dreamed of having a trainer to help us both take it to the next level of health and fitness. I was really thrilled to learn about the program offered by Fitness Concepts and we both decided to train together.

Sam and Armando evaluated us and introduced us to our trainer Aaron Wetherspoon~ what a turning point that day was! While looking through the Chino Magazine my husband came across the ad for Fitness Concepts. My husband said to me, “Would you like a personal trainer for your birthday?”, and I said “That’s not a bad idea, we should both get one.” The next day I stopped by the gym and asked of I could have a tour of the facility. Sam my nutritionist was more than happy to show me around the gym and I was very impressed. I was so impressed that I phoned my husband and asked him to stop by and check it out after work. He too got a tour and signed up the same day. I went back the next day and signed up also. I met with Sam and he asked me what my goals were. At that time I weighed 147 lbs. I told him I would like to try get down to 130 lbs. He said OK, he put me on a diet and introduced me to Frank my trainer whom I would be working out with 3 times a week for 30 minutes each session. I also have to come in on my off days and do cardio. Sam said it would take 2 months to get to my goal if I followed the guidelines he had set for me. I felt I was ready; I should have done this years earlier since both my parents passed away from heart disease. I knew my risk factors were high, but I still did nothing about it. I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure and a hypothyroid. I was anxious to get started. At first I had a hard time with both the workout and the diet, but with my husband and I both on the program, together we encouraged each other. It’s been 2 months since I started and I have lost 15 lbs and 3 ½ inches in my waist. I went from a size 10 to a size 8 and set a new goal to get into a size 6 and am happy to say that I can also get my rings off my fingers. My cholesterol went from 211 to 181. I have Sam and Frank to thank; they always have a smile on their face and an encouraging word. I would highly recommend this program to everyone. It feels great knowing that I have set out to get something done and have done it.

When I first joined Fitness Concepts, I wasn’t sure what to expect. At 267 pounds, I knew I needed to lose weight, but I didn’t know how to really go about it. I had tried the Atkin’s and South Beach diets, and lost weight but gained it back.

On my first day, Armando wrote up an eating plan for me to follow. At six meals and snacks per day, I would not go hungry. So far it has worked out great. My trainer Frank put me on an exercise plan of 3 workouts per week. Each workout is a fast-paced ½ hour (yes, just ½ hour!) that hits individual body parts. The quick pace enables my metabolism to speed up, which promotes weight loss. On my off-days, I do a treadmill workout.

As of today I am down to 248 pounds, a loss of 19 pounds in 2 months. Also, I have lost over 8 inches total and my clothes fit better. I now look forward to my weigh-in and workouts because I know the plan is WORKING! I am well on my way to my
220 lbs goal.

Greetings to Everyone,

After 20 plus years of not exercising, and eating correctly, it was time for a change. I certainly knew what I needed to do being an ex-athlete, but I needed help, now that I was approaching my mid-40’s. That help was found after talking to Dr. Sam Bakhtiar, the owner of Fitness Concepts. We had an initial interview on site, which also included a tour, a discussion of the program that would be tailored to my needs and a workout with a personal trainer, Mr. Rene Chavez.

I’ve been training with Rene, three times a week, since mid-March, and have lost over 40 lbs., 3 pant sizes, and over 20 total inches. Rene, who is incidentally the newly-crowned Mr. Muscle Beach International, in the welter weight division, is an excellent fit for me. He is with me during each exercise, to monitor technique, document progress, and provide needed motivation. He is extremely knowledgeable and does not allow my workouts to be boring or permit me to be complacent.

Another component of the overall program is proper nutrition and accountability of what you eat. This guidance comes from Armando, the nutritionist, who prepares a menu, does the weekly weigh- in, and performs monthly measuring.

Being held accountable for showing up, eating correctly, and having results documented is what I needed. The way my body is starting to look and feel, my improved energy, the health benefits, and compliments are well worth the INVESTMENT!

I have been dieting for ever!!! Yep, that’s my story. I have been up and down on weight for all of my adult life. I can go up and down weekly-if not daily. Pretty scary, right? Pretty unhealthy is more like it. Over the years I have tried Weight Watchers three times, The Diet Center, Jenny Craig and anything else that came by.

So in the last 3 years my body like everyone else’s has gone through some changes. I tried to get the weight off in 2003 (30+ pounds)- I was going to Lindora Medical Center, spent a lot of money and ended up putting the weight back on in record time only then finding out I had developed Hyperthyroidism by the fall of 2004. I was one of the few who put weight on instead of shedding it. I hated being the big one in the family and wanted nothing more than to shed the excess weight and feel better. I am only 5’5” and the shortest
in the bunch and a dress size 16. OUCH!!!!!

We planned a family vacation to Hawaii for 12 days in the summer of 2005 and I started dieting in June thinking I could drop a few pounds by July. A friend from Girl Scouts told me about Fitness Concepts and I called and made an appointment. I was impressed with the management and the no nonsense way it all was explained. Weight Training, Cardio and Personal Diet combined made sense and I was hooked. I signed up and asked for a trainer that wasn’t going to waste my time by talking too much. I wanted someone who would kick my butt and make me understand why I would use certain machines for certain muscle groups and how they work. Then I met my trainer. One session with the pint sized drill instructor was all it took me to be a believer. She took her time to explain all the machines and pushed me to my limit every session. She is encouraging and sensitive but firm and had earned the nickname-SARGE. She has helped me over the hump and the results are proof enough for me. Losing inches and pounds along with my personal diet, I am down to a solid size 10 dress and working my way to the single digit sizes. It has been a road well traveled and I look forward to working with Fitness Concepts for life. Fitness Concepts is the best thing that has happened to me this year. Watch out 2006-I’m ready for a great New Year.

I just wanted to write this letter to say how pleased I am about being a member at your gym. You have taken the whole atmosphere of working out to a new level, with all the new and modern equipment, to the very knowledgeable staff of trainers, to the cleanliness of the gym even during peak workout periods. Your knowledge of training and nutrition are second to none. I especially wanted to commend Cris my trainer, he is excellent to work with and very conscious of my well being when I’m working out. He knows when I’ve peaked out with an exercise and then pushes a little more but never endangers my health. He consistently motivates me and changes the workout routine as not to be boring. I have been working out about four months now and feeling better than I have in years. I have lost seventeen pounds and several inches all around. Mondo has been crucial in helping me with my nutritional needs, that I have neglected for twenty five years, (I bet I’m a real challenge for him) although I’m sure he has faced larger obstacles than me. Hi Sam,

Just a note describing how my wife and I decided to join Fitness Concepts. As I explained to you during my tour of the Fitness Concepts facility for the past few years my wife and I had thought about joining a gym. Periodically we would see an advertisement for Fitness Concepts in a local magazine and knowing that my wife did not like exercising or large gyms I suggested to her that Fitness Concepts might be a good choice since it was small and she would receive personal training. For myself I thought joining would be a good idea since I had a back injury in the past as well as a cardiac procedure and I had not done any exercise consistently for about twenty years.

Since I have started working out three months ago, I can honestly say I have not felt this good in years, I feel great! I sleep better, my back does not hurt and I can now jog three miles nonstop. I also wanted to thank you Sam, my personal trainer Lilia, and Armando. All of you give great advice and always have an encouraging word.

God is good to me so I know how important your health is. One day this lady and I were talking about weight and she told me about this trainer named Ashik. She talked so highly about him that I decided to give him a call. That is how I came about coming to this gym. Before I came to this Gym my weight was 172 and I knew I had to do something. When I met with Ashik he gave me hope and that was what I needed because we all need to know that there is hope out there and that it is not too late. You can do what you need to when it comes down to it and you have someone like Ashik in your corner. I thank God for him and he is an awesome trainer. The staff is very good and they have a very good eating and workout plan. If you follow their instructions and be faithful to the program, then you will get down to the size you want. Eight years ago, I went through a life-changing experience. I suffered two brain aneurysms, one of which ruptured. Miraculously, I survived and without any impairment to my motor skills. However, it did affect the part of my brain which deals with emotions, desires, motivations, etc.

I eventually had to leave my job and also give up my horse, which meant I just basically sat around the house, eating and gaining weight. I had tried a few different ways to lose the weight and succeeded, however it always came back on after I stopped whatever plan I had been following. And none of those plans included exercising.

I knew that this time around I could not do this on my own. I needed someone to guide me and push me to get where I knew I needed to be. Which is why my decision to sign on with Fitness Concepts was the best thing I could have done for myself. When I went in to talk with Sam about the facility and my medical history, he was very understanding and said he knew just the right trainer for me.

Working with Kristine Yu has been wonderful. She can tell when I can push myself a little more, even if I don’t. However, she has never made me do anything that she wasn’t confident I could do. She is always so supportive and gives me such positive feedback when I accomplish another goal.

In the first 3 ½ weeks, I lost 13 lbs. and 7 ½ inches. That was all the encouragement I needed to know that I was on the right track. The nutritional guidance I have received from Sam has been so easy to understand and follow. People often ask what kind of diet that I am on, and it’s really nice to say that I’m not on a diet, that I’m just finally learning how to eat healthier.

After 3 months, I have lost 19.5 lbs. and a little over 11 inches. Aside from the great physical benefits I have achieved with Fitness Concepts, it has also helped me emotionally. It’s truly amazing how one’s physical condition can affect one’s mental condition, and vice versa.

A milestone birthday and a desire to get in better shape brought me to consult with a professional trainer. After two kids, a stressful job, and managing busy family members, I found myself overweight and unhappy with my inactive lifestyle. I needed to lose some weight, get stronger and become more active. But, I needed guidance and support. I had always been athletic, but somewhere along the timeline of my life, I lost it - in body and in spirit.

Kristine and I met in January 2005 and have been “partners” in this goal of mine for nearly 9 months now. Since working with Kristine, I’ve not only lost weight and became stronger but gained back my self-respect and self-confidence… with myself, at work, and at home.

What I didn’t realize, until writing this, was how far reaching Kristine’s efforts have been realized. Moms are often the “project managers” of our families and I am no exception; deciding what the family eats, what we do, where we go on vacation. I had been disappointed with not only myself but with what my family was becoming – another inactive, overweight statistic.

Kristine was a great educator and provided much needed motivation. In the process, I became a willing advocate and my family is better off because of it. We now eat healthier and enjoy a more active lifestyle. I am especially proud to report that I gained the confidence and stamina to compete in several athletic events. So far this year, I’ve completed two 5K runs, three 10K runs, 1 half-marathon and 3 sprint triathlons. And, I’m not done… I want to try a century bike ride and some off-road races. I am most definitely in the best shape than I have been in well over 15 years. Encouraged by Kristine and her advice on nutrition and exercise, I am well on my way to reaching my fitness goals and creating new ones… my fitness is a journey, not a destination. I wanted to take a moment to thank you for the difference that you’ve made for my wife Michele and I. We started working out at fitness concepts a year and a half ago. Our story is typical. Get married. Have kids (3). Get Fat. Get Lazy. Make excuses. “We don’t have enough time to work out. We’re too busy. We’ll get started next week, better yet, next month…maybe, next year. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with type II Diabetes and very high cholesterol. My doctor and family have always encouraged me to eat tight and exercise but I never seemed motivated to get started.

As many people do today, I continued down the path of never-ending prescriptions, re-filling my medications every month and never seeing improvement to my ultimate health. I knew I needed to exercise and improve my diet or I’d end up insulin dependent and in worse health than I already was. My wife and I took notice of the Fitness concepts ads and read many of your clients’ testimonials and we decided to take the first step. I have now been a member for three months and with the help of my personal trainer Ashik who monitors my diet and customizes my workout routine, Armando who keeps me on track with my overall nutrition program and Sam who continually motivates me every week, we have created a dedicated team!

I’m excited to say I am off my cholesterol medication, my cholesterol numbers have dropped 100 points and blood sugar levels have stabilized. A half an hour training session with a personal trainer once an week keeps us on track for the remainder of the week. (They check-in at the beginning of the session to see how training on our own went during the week.)

Weight training, diet, cardio, I thought I was doing all right. I am still active in sports, trained with weights for many years and was not a junk foo, or fast food person. Even though I looked healthy on the outside,m and did not consider myself out of shape, my doctor saw something completely different. He saw an aoverweight person with high cholesterol ( over 240 ), increasing blood pressure and elevated sugar levels. I was 49 years old, my friends told me I looked fit, but my doctor told me I was on the fst road to poor health. He told me that if I could not get my weight, blood pressure and cholesterol levels down In a few months, he would put me on medication. Ouch! What a shock.

That did it for me, because I don’t even like to take medicine for a headache. I had five months to go before I turned 50, and felt that was the magic number for me. I needed to make some serious progress by the time I turned 50, or face my accuser and succumb to medication for the rest of my life.

I talked to several trainers to see if they could offer any suggestions or help. When I met Sam, owner of Fitness Concepts, he gave me his personal assurance he could help. He could help without any special pills, packaged meals or magic potion, but through real food you get at the grocery store. Sam told me he would give me a simple eating plan, weight training plan and cardio plan that would reduce my body fat and maintain my lean muscle mass. He told me that it is not about starving yourself, counting calories and running till you throw up. It is a proper mix of training and diet, not only what to eat, but when to eat and in what combinations. Sam told me that if I followed his plan I would succeed, and he would be there each week to keep track.

I really like Sam’s positive attitude and proposal that focused on food and a simple plan. I joined Fitness Concepts about tow months ago and Sam along with Center Manager Armando set me up with a plan and a trainer, Ashley, which I meet with twice a week. Ashley has been great for me, keeping me going (yes, through the pain), teaching me new exercises, working on my weak points, and not letting me cheat myself. She knows her stuff! And as promised, Sam is there each time, and every week he charts my progress and offers help with diet and exercise.

As he claimed, I have achieved great results. I still consider myself a work in progress, but have already lost 15 pounds of body fat, 4 inches off my waist, and more importantly, my blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels are already within normal ranges. Wow, I still have three months until I turn 50!

His plan is simple and customized for each person. If you follow the plan it will work. I credit my progress to the great people at Fitness Concepts. Thank you!

Dear Sam and Armando,

I am such a fan of you both and want to thank you so, so much for all you’ve done for me, my body and my health.

Sam – You are so correct in the point that you made to me when I returned once again to train with Fitness Concepts. You said something like “We spend a considerable amount of money and effort maintaining our cars, our homes, and other material things in our life…shouldn’t we put just as much thought, effort and money into maintaining our bodies, thus our health?!” I really stopped and thought about it. Wow. You’re so right. That really helped put the importance of taking care of ourselves in perspective. If only more people thought that way….

Well, now I’ve made a promise to myself to put effort where effort is truly due. My body and mental health takes a front seat in what I refer to as “my life’s maintenance plan.”

Through Fitness Concepts I’ve attained not only weight loss, but also a more toned body, lower cholesterol and a much better sense of self. Yes, it’s a lot of work, but it’s extremely worth it. There’s just nothing like putting on my “skinny pants” again, and not having to suck in my gut to get them zipped up. Needless to say, my doctor is pleased that my cholesterol is now in the healthy range. And, my husband is extremely happy with the continuous results. Having him tell me he’s proud of my progress is quite a motivator in itself.

A friend once said it perfectly: “Nothing tastes as good as feeling thin and healthy feels.” Well, that’s true. So, so true. And absolutely worth the effort that it takes to get there.

I’m so happy to be back on a program with you, Armando and Frank.

A Career Woman Working Out

Like many career woman, I find myself prioritizing and justifying the items on my agenda, to make my schedule work. With the stresses of work and daily life it is easy to let working out be the last priority. But, when we step back and look at the big picture, it is our health that needs to be our number one priority. Eating, sleeping and exercise habits need to be the first items scheduled. Working out has many benefits. It lowers my stress level, helps my self-esteem, and gives me a higher energy level. When I am working out regularly, I naturally eat better.

I want to give encouragement to anyone who’s struggling with achieving their fitness goals. I just recently had a baby and desperately needed to get back into shape and just plain good health. I started training when I was sixteen and I always thought I knew how to diet and workout. Thought the years I maintained a pretty good physique, but once I hit thirty I began to stray away from the gym. I began to gain weight fast. When I turned thirty-five I was sick of the way I looked and started working out again. Instantly I lost 20 lbs, but then I began to plateau. I became very frustrated. I knew about Sam and what he had done for other people and thought maybe it might work for me. I had no clue what was going to be ahead.

I’ve lived in Chino Hills for 14 years so I am familiar with many of you in this area. We run into each other at Albertson’s and Blockbuster or at one of my many trips to the Spectrum. I always know when my workouts are effective because you are quick to comment on how great I look or the flipside that you didn’t recognize me because I had put on so much weight. Well, you don’t actually say that part but I’m not in denial. I know that extra pounds make all of us look different.

The reason that I am looking much leaner these days is because of Fitness Concepts. I approached the owner Saman Bakhtiar in 2001 and hired my first trainer.

I reached my goal and started working out again on my own. Okay so fast-forward to 2006 where I found myself in the same position after I packed on 30 lbs. I started with Weight Watcher’s but due to all of the Aspartame that I was using because of my desire to keep my points low, I lost the sight in my right eye. I began a cleanse to get it out of my body and decided that I better do it the natural way. My eyesight returned so, I ran back to Fitness Concepts and I am happy to say that I have already lost 25 lbs and I’m still going.

My neighbors and close friends know that I am a registered nurse and that my graduate degree is in science, so I am constantly challenging theories. Fitness Concepts places emphasis on the “concepts.” The nurses at the hospital are coming to me for advice on weight training because they see my results. Every time I need to lose weight I am not going to waste anytime. I’m heading back to the people that I know will help me get to my goal. Don’t get me wrong, I still have issues with my eating habits, so I really appreciate being weighed every week and receiving great advice to get me back on track.

I am an advocate of hiring a personal trainer because the science behind getting the body that you desire is in working each of the muscles in three sets. Most of us going to the gym cheat ourselves by working out on only the mach8ines we find the easiest to operate and we work on the body parts that we prefer. A trainer is not going to allow you to cheat yourself.

And to my lady friends, weight training has so many benefits for your bones and for increasing your metabolism. Don’t worry that you will look to masculine. Weight training adds curves to our bodies instead of just being skinny flab.

I have to thank my wonderful trainer Aaron for pushing me beyond what I could imagine and for Armando for having patience with me during my agonizing nutrition counseling sessions.

In mid July I was at my sons piano practice and was killing time looking at magazines, at that time I was feeling tired, stressed, and hated the way I looked. My clothes were getting bigger and I was eating horribly for my body. I knew I had to do something because my Doctor had told me in January that my blood pressure was high for my age (146/99) and losing weight would help along with a good diet. As I was going through some magazines I came across a Fitness Concepts ad. It offered a free 2 day trial pass, and having nothing to lose, I set up an appointment and went in to see if I could afford to do this. After all, only rich people can afford their own trainers, right? Wrong. I trained with you and you made me feel comfortable and answered any questions that I had. The equipment was easy to use and they were connected to a satellite TV (what else could I ask for) so while I walked on the treadmill I could also watch TV. I signed up with you on July 16, 2005 and at that time I was wearing size 16 pants which actually fit pretty snug. Almost three months have passed now and I am now wearing a size 12 pant. That’s three sizes smaller!!!! Wow, and this is just the beginning. I still have several months to go, before I am where I would like to be at. I am proof that if a person just sticks to your diet and exercise regimen they will see and feel results. I recently checked my blood pressure and it read (119/79) which is where it is supposed to be and I feel great! I have energy as a result of my training and my stress level is lower. I have removed all the junk food in my home and haven’t missed it at all. Armando you have helped me so much and have been patient with me in regards to my schedule, I cannot thank you enough. I promise to work hard for you and know I will meet my goal very soon. I have recommended you to anyone who has asked about getting in shape and the money I have put towards this has been the best thing I have ever done for myself and my husband who has also joined. To Whom It May Concern:

When Christine asked me to write a letter explaining how she has impacted my life, I thought to myself this would probably be one of the easiest letters I would ever have to write, since Christine has done so much for me.

Let me go back two years ago when I first saw Christine, who by the way came very highly recommended. I was a borderline diabetic, and I had high blood pressure, I was suffering from chronic migraine headaches and I had just been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by fatigue, widespread pain in your muscles, ligaments and tendons, and multiple tender points – places on your body where slight pressure causes pain. I had fibromyalgia so bad that it hurt to turn the pages of a book when I read to my two year old daughter. I reached a point in my life that I was tired of living my life in pain. I had a hard time getting out of bed and doing every day things. When I met Christine I explained to her how I felt and everything that I was going through. What I loved about Christine was that during that whole time that I was explaining to her how I felt she never made me feel uncomfortable, or less than perfect. She was just the opposite. She encouraged me when I felt down, and helped me work through the pain until I got to the point that I was strong enough to work through it myself. I am not saying that Christine cured me from everything, but if it was not for her I would probably be on disability and on pain killers like most people who have fibromyalgia. I thank God for Christine and I appreciate everything she has done for me. Although, I still have some pain from the fibromyalgia it is nowhere near the pain that I had two years ago and I truly owe that to Christine.

My wife was first to join Fitness Concepts and then asked me to come try a workout session with her. At first I was a little skeptical about joining a gym and figured why I need to go when we had a treadmill and weights at home that I could use. I am definitely glad that she convinced me to go and try the place out. I was set up with my personal trainer Frank, who right from the start has always made sure that I kept correct form when lifting weights and stayed focused on my goals. He has shared with me his knowledge from years of training himself and what he learned about muscle development and physical fitness in school. Within the last 2 months I have seen increased muscle mass in both my upper and lower body, increased energy levels, and my clothing fits me much better. Fitness Concepts is not like any other fitness place that I have been to. I feel that everyone who goes there has really set their minds to getting into great physical shape and are going because they want to be there, not because someone told them it would be good idea. I was 50 years old, my blood pressure was over 160/102, I weighed 230 pounds and my body fat percentage was 42.6 percent. I had a torn meniscus in my knee and arthritis in my joints. I was working 60-80 hours a week. I was back in school working toward my doctoral degree and trying to juggle the responsibilities of professional and personal life. In addition, I was on Thyroxin, Mevacor and two blood pressure medications. That was August 2003.

My father died of a heart attack at the age of 52. My mother had recently been diagnosed with rectal cancer. I decided that if I didn’t do something to heal myself, I would never see my children married or be around to help my family/colleagues with any meaningful contribution.

I credit my doctor with the “final straw.” He told me that I was hypertensive – a word used to describe a person who is overweight, has high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I remember that word in relation to my father who had died 30 years ago. I decided to do something – to invest in myself.

First, I worked on my weight and lost 31 pounds. Then, I added exercise. Muscle tone and cardiovascular strength was what I needed. I also needed to have someone to whom I was accountable. I went to Fitness Concepts and signed up with a personal trainer, Cassie, to help me learn how to use weight machines properly. I dedicated myself to consistently attending my appointments with Cassie and with fallowing the advice of the Fitness Concepts team. I followed the diet plan provided to me and listened to Sam when he counseled me about modifications I needed to make in my diet and physical training to meet my personal fitness goals.

Now, one year later, I have lost a total of 115 pounds. My blood pressure averages 80/60, my cholesterol count has improved and my current body fat is 19 percent. I work out three times a week and use the time to alleviate stress and reflect on my day. Cassie works with me as an individual and never loses sight of the goals we have set to improve my strength and health.

In January 2004, I made a New Year’s resolution to lose 65 pounds. Statistics: 36 years old, 205 pounds, size 14-16, XL shirt size and 5’7”. I was thoroughly depressed, frustrated with my weight and y self-esteem had dropped to an all-time low. I knew I needed to make a drastic change.

Like everyone else, I tried every fad diet, and popular exercise program- nothing worked. So as a last resort, I took and chance and hired myself a personal trainer (Avey) and nutritionist Sam Bakhtiar from fitness Concepts. My training appointments were twice a week; however, I was so determined and motivated to lose the weight that I was working out at the gym six days a wee.

The first month I lost over ten pounds. I was “IN SHOCK” that my clothes were already starting to fall off of me. Sam and Avey educated me on my diet and weight training plans. Before I knew it, I was down to a size ten pants and dropping about two pounds a week.

As of September 2004, I have lost a total of 65 pounds and fit int a size two jeans and a size small blouse! People do not recognize me and are constantly asking me how I did it. For years (since my 20’s), I dreamed of feeling and looking like this. It took patience, will power and motivation to stay on track. With all of this energy and endurance, I am already setting new goals for myself. As a result, nutrition and exercise have become a permanent part of my life. For the first time in my life, I enjoy exercising.

My name is Michelle Murphy. I am 38 years old and live in Chino Hills. I want to tell you about my life-changing experience with Fitness Concepts.

I struggled with my weight all my life. I would lose weight on all the diets I tried only to regain after a few months. I stopped going out with my friends because I would get tired easily and would be embarrassed. I topped the scale at 265 pounds and wore a size 26. one day, I had had enough and decided to join a gym. I had never joined a gym before or even tried to exercise. At this point, however, I was willing to try anything.

I went to the local gym, walked inside and just stared for a couple of minutes at all the machines. I had seen a sign for a free intro session for Fitness Concepts. That’s when I met Saman Bakhtiar, the owner. He was very professional and knowledgeable. After my session with him, I decided to start a three-month program with Fitness Concepts.

Sam (as we call him) set me up with a trainer by the name of Kristine Yu. I started working out with Kristine three days (one-half hour sessions) every week and seeing Sam every Monday for weight check and nutrition. After the first three months, I had lost 30 pounds. I was excited about my weight loss and decided to extend my program for another six months. I was determined to get the rest of the weight off and to eat healthier. I changed my program to three days (on-hour sessions) a week with Kristine and worked out two days a week by myself.

After twenty months, I weigh 140 pounds and wear a size six. I could not have done it without Fitness Concepts and my trainer, Kristine. She has been there for me every step of the way. She challenges me, encourages me, helps me emotionally when I get off track with my eating habits and always makes time for me in my busy work schedule.

We all know the pressure to be “thin” – especially in Hollywood. Trust me. I know. I’m an aspiring actress.

Many individuals, however, try to find easy, unhealthy and quick fix fad diets and programs that can be hazardous to your health and ultimately lead you right back where you started.

When I first joined “Fitness Concepts” in January 2005, my New Year’s resolution was to get leaner. I weighed 123 pounds with twenty-four percent body fat. After three months training (three times a week for one hour sessions) of their program, I dropped inches and now weigh 110 pounds with sixteen percent body fat.

People think that when you are eating healthy it is because you are on a “diet”. No! “Fitness Concepts” believes in client education and long-term health and success. Eating healthy is a lifestyle. I truly believe that “Fitness Concepts” will help you reach your goal—that is, if you are mentally and physically ready and willi8ng to do whatever it takes. There are no excuses!
